Equipment
- 1 Cooling Rack optional
- 1 sauce bowl
Ingredients
- 3 whole Chicken Wing Flats
- 3 whole Chicken Wing Drums
- 3 tbsp Traeger Whiskey Dust Seasoning Substitute our Honey Chipotle
- 3 tbsp Rock's Irish Whiskey BBQ Sauce
Instructions
- To prepare the wings, split them into drums and flats and discard the tips.
- Once you're done separating the wings, give them a little pat dry using a paper towel. Then, simply pop them onto a cooling rack and let them chill in the fridge for 1-2 hours to get rid of any extra moisture.
- Crank up your Traeger Timberline XL to 400º. While it heats up, place your wings in a large bowl, add your favorite seasoning and a little cornstarch, then toss to combine and coat the wings. Then place your wings back on the cooling rack and season both sides.
- Using your cooling rack place your seasoned wings onto the Traeger Timberline XL and grill for about 45 minutes (checking them at about 30 minutes).
- Once the wings appear crispy, remove them from the grill and transfer them to a large bowl. Add some Irish Whiskey BBQ Sauce and toss to incorporate them well. Put the coated wings back on the grill and cook for an additional 5 minutes to set the sauce.
- You've done it! Take the wings off the grill and let rest for 2-3 minutes and then savor the flavor of these amazing game day wings.

I recently entered the Traeger x Whistlepig Gameday contest and I am so excited! The grand prize is a Traeger Timberline XL grill package and a cooking experience with Chad Ward! All I’m doing is submitting a photo or video of the weekly game day challenges of my best game day recipe using my various Traeger grills – like my Timberline XL, Ironwood 885, Flatrock, and Ranger.
The competition is tough. I’ve seen so many amazing recipes and grill setups from other contestants. Regardless of the outcome, I am just happy to be a part of this fun and delicious contest. What are you smoking for game day?
Let’s give you some more background on Traeger, a company based in Utah that’s been around since 1987. They’re the ones who introduced the concept of wood pellet grills, which are amazing for the busy backyard pitmaster. You’ll get a unique and delicious cooking experience every time, and the best part is that Traeger grills are super easy to use. You can always count on consistent and tasty results with Traeger, so it’s definitely a top choice for anyone who loves to grill!
Update! I’ve been fortunate to win week 1 and was one of 1,000 to win an exclusive game day sticker pack. What will be in store for week 2? Not sure, but I’ll be rocking something on my Traegers.
