Start by setting your Traeger Timberline 1300 to 180° F and preheat for about 15 minutes.
When the smoker is up to temp, place your tri-tip directly on the grill grate and smoke for about 3 hours (feel free to use the super smoke feature for extra smoked taste).
After 3 hours, remove the tri-tip and set your smoker to 275° F. While the smoker temp climbs, wrap the tri-tip tightly in aluminum foil.
When the temp is at 275° F, place the wrapped tri-tip back on the smoker for another 45-90 minutes. The internal temp should reach 130° F.
When it does, take your wrapped tri-tip off the grill and crank it up to 500° F.
As your Traeger reaches 500° F, remove the tri-tip and sear both sides for 3-4 minutes.
After searing, allow the tri-tip to rest for 10 minutes.
When you are ready to serve, slice your tri-tip against the grain to serve to your family & friends!
